Day 5: I almost felt like I was in Vietnam

Thursday November 7, 2013

This morning was the worst. I'm sensitive to light and I will easily wake up to light streaming in through the windows. I woke up and I had to cover my eyes with a tshirt. About half an hour later, Theresa's alarm went off. I thought maybe it was 9am but it was 5:30am!!!!  The sun was already beaming!!! (I could never live in Alaska with 24 hours of daylight) haha

Tried to go back to sleep for a little but by then we were already awake. Started our day with a little breakfast the hostel provided. (They seem to be really big on this one bread and ham and of course freshly made jugo!) I ate a lot since since we didn't even eat dinner last night. (Too lazy to go down those excorsist stairs)

We headed to the "grocery store" to find things we needed for tomorrow's trek, but instead we landed at this huge market. This is where it felt like I was in Asia!! (Cho Ben thanh, specifically if you've been to Vietnam) basically a huge bargain market! You could find aisles of everything from souvenirs, clothes, juice, soup, food, dessert, bread, raw meat, grains and everything in between. The food part was fun. There's two rows of juice stores. Everyone's flagging you down so you can pick their store to eat/drink at. Why so you need 20 different stores all offering the same exact list of juices for the same exact price? Odd competition. There's a whole row of people making chicken noodle soup, a whole row of food mainly rice and eggs and chicken/beef. Lots of different options, just a lot of options within the same option. Haha.

Afterwards we landed on a street, well it was more like street after street of more of those bargain like stores. So fun! I really wish I had room in my backpack to buy all sorts of things. (Funny though, I think a lot of items are all imported from china)

After all this bargaining, we were still in the same area, so we went back to the big market for more cheap food. This time we ate chicken, rice, salad, French fries and egg!! Everything "con huevo" is good to me! Muy Rico!

Explores the downtown area again and took pictures with the Inkas ;)

We still haven't eaten dinner. Walking back to the hostel and those darn excorsist stairs! I will go hungry than go down and back up these steps. Got to save it for tomorrow's trek! They're picking us up at 4:30am. Maybe I'll have cell service, maybe I won't. If not, I'll post in a few days! :)
